CONOPT Solver Information
CONOPT is an efficient large-scale Nonlinear Programming (NLP) solver developed by ARKI Consulting and Development. Multiple versions of CONOPT are included in AIMMS, because there are some cases where the old version (2.07x series) dominates the new version (3.1x series). In general, the new version is faster than the old version. AIMMS can now compute exact second order derivatives, which can be used by CONOPT 3.1x series to solve certain classes of NLP model much more efficiently.
A good alternative for CONOPT is SNOPT which often complements CONOPT. If CONOPT finds it difficult to solve a problem then SNOPT will often be able to solve it (and vice versa). If both solvers fail then this indicates that the model is very difficult or very poorly scaled.
Default AIMMS Solver
CONOPT is available as the default nonlinear solver in every AIMMS system for solving NLP/QP. The CONOPT 3 series also offers QCP capabilites.
