CONOPT is an efficient large-scale Nonlinear Programming (NLP) solver. Multiple versions of CONOPT are included in AIMMS, because there are some cases where the old version (2.07x series) dominates the new version (3.1x series). In general, the new version is faster than the old version. AIMMS can compute exact second order derivatives, which can be used by CONOPT 3.1x series to solve certain classes of NLP model much more efficiently.

Good alternatives for CONOPT are KNITRO and SNOPT which often complement CONOPT. If CONOPT finds it difficult to solve a problem then KNITRO or SNOPT will often be able to solve it (and vice versa). If all three solvers fail then this indicates that the model is very difficult or very poorly scaled.

Default AIMMS Solver

CONOPT is available as the default nonlinear solver in every AIMMS system for solving NLP/QP.

Supported Versions

  • AIMMS 3.6-3.10 supports CONOPT 2.071c, 3.11b, 3.14a and 3.14g, which are also available in the free trial license of AIMMS.
  • AIMMS 3.5 supports CONOPT 2.070g, 2.071c, 3.11b and 3.14a.
