e-terracommit Multi-Area Unit Commitment (RSC)

AREVA's e-terracommit (formerly called Resource Scheduling and Commitment-RSC) is the result of several years of research, development, and practical experience in applying new software products and methods to solve complex power system scheduling problems.

A major goal of this development is to provide our customers with a highly flexible product that can be readily adapted to today's changing requirements.

e-terracommit is specifically oriented toward the emerging market-based systems, where there is a need for more sophistication in modeling and pricing of dispatch constraints.

The application can be configured for either physical cost-based minimization or RTO price-based clearing of bids and offers.

e-terracommit meets these needs through a combination of newly developed high-level programming languages, high-speed commercially available solvers and extensive use of graphical objects. Use of these third party tools allows us to focus on user needs and functionality. Regular updates of third party tools provide enhancements to e-terracommit that are passed along to users.

The result is a highly functional, flexible state-of-the-art resource scheduler that will serve our customers for many years.

E-terracommit Funcionality includes:

  • Automatic initialization from AREVA's real-time EMP system.
  • Constrained Dynamic Dispatch - an advanced economic dispatch method that includes area, energy, fuel, emissions and generic constraints. By dispatching all resources simultaneously, the user is assured that an optimal use of all resources is obtained.
  • Multi-Area Thermal Unit Commitment with tie line constraints.
  • Hydro Scheduling - including a detailed hydraulic model for cascading river systems.
  • Hydro-thermal Coordination - optimal coordination between hydro and thermal resources.
  • Transaction Analysis - including Economy A, Economy B evaluations.
  • Fuel Contact optimization - includes optimal dispatch of multi-tiered fuel contracts with pipeline constraints.
  • Generic Constraints - allows the user program additional constraints using a spreadsheet type interface.
  • Automatic Constraint Relaxation - provides an orderly relaxation of major system contraints.
  • Case Comparison - provides graphical and tabular comparison of two or more cases.
  • Enhanced Graphical User Interface (GUI) - provides numerous user-friendly features for viewing input and results data.

AREVA believes that the innovative, highly leveraged design of e-terracommit will provide our customers with a state-of-the-art Unit Commitment / Hydro Scheduling function that can be readily adapted to their evolving requirements.
