Metcash Embarks on Supply Chain Network Digital Transformation with AIMMS SC Navigator

Metcash chooses SC Navigator for supply chain network design

Haarlem, North Holland, 04 June 2025 – AIMMS is supporting Metcash, Australia’s leading wholesale distributor, in building a comprehensive digital twin of its complex supply chain network using AIMMS SC Navigator. This initiative lays the groundwork for Metcash’s next-generation supply chain optimization strategy across its diverse retail formats.

The implementation of SC Navigator will enable Metcash to model and analyze scenarios for its extensive supply chain network, which serves independent businesses across food and liquor throughout Australia. As the digital twin development progresses and comprehensive data integration is completed, the platform will provide advanced capabilities for strategic network design, tactical planning, and scenario analysis.

“We’re taking a measured approach to building our supply chain digital twin with AIMMS SC Navigator,” said Peter Hodsdon, Head of Supply Chain Network & Solutions at Metcash. “While we’re in the early stages of implementation and data integration, we’re already seeing the potential for this platform to transform how we analyze and optimize our multi-format network. The ability to model complex scenarios across our supermarket, liquor, food service, and convenience channels will be invaluable as we continue to evolve our supply chain strategy.”

The phased Implementation approach allows Metcash to methodically build the data foundation required for comprehensive optimization. Once fully operational with integrated data streams, SC Navigator will empower Metcash to:

  • Model and optimize network design across multiple channels by customer needs
  • Evaluate strategic scenarios for supply chain reconfiguration
  • Balance cost efficiency with service level improvements
  • Analyze the impact of market changes and disruptions
  • Support data-driven decision-making for network expansion and consolidation
  • Optimize inventory placement and route-to-market strategies.

Metcash’s diverse business model, serving over 100,000 businesses across multiple categories, presents a unique complexity that makes advanced scenario planning capabilities particularly valuable. The company’s commitment to supporting independent retailers while maintaining competitive efficiency requires sophisticated analytical tools to navigate the evolving retail landscape.

AIMMS SC Navigator implementation aligns with Metcash’s broader digital transformation initiatives and commitment to operational excellence. As data integration progresses and the digital twin becomes fully operational, the platform will serve as a critical tool for strategic planning and continuous optimization of Metcash’s supply chain network.

“We’re proud to partner with Metcash as they take a bold step toward a more agile and resilient supply chain,” said Arthur Torsij, VP Global Sales at AIMMS. “This implementation is a milestone in their network transformation journey, equipping them with the speed, flexibility, and insights needed in today’s dynamic business landscape.”
